He heard whispers, many whispers, from many little birds. It was, after all, his duty to know what was happening in the realm. But there were some things that even he, with his vast reach and network, had never been able to learn. The mother of Lord Stark's bastard for example.

"What does it matter who the boy's mother is," Koit asked him one afternoon as he walked through the gardens. "He's a bastard."

"A bastard who looks more trueborn than his trueborn siblings." Varys mused. "Does that not strike you as odd? I've seen bastards with similarities to their noble kin before but not like that boy. And his features are familiar but I can't place them."

"If you say he looks like a Stark..."

"He has the colors, dark hair and grey eyes, but his features are fairer than any Stark I've ever seen." Varys paused as looked down at Koit, who was nearly invisible against his dark coloured robes. "Perhaps his mother was Lady Ashara Dayne after all. It may be way his fair features seem familiar."

Koit hummed lightly and crawled up his arm to his shoulder. "Or perhaps you're reading too much into it, my darling," she said and he could hear the smile in her voice. "I think you should just leave it alone. All truths come out in time anyways."
