Tiberius watched as his father trained with the old gladiator, learning tactics that hardly seemed fitting of a man of his father's station. Soldiers didn't need to fight like dogs. Soldiers were better than that.

Xanthia sat on the bench next to him, watching just as he was, but she, unlike he, had little problem with quietly voicing her thoughts on the matter.

"Why is he doing this? It's ridiculous. Senseless. What makes him think those rebel dogs will fight with any sense of honour?"

Tiberius shrugged as he ran his hand over Xanthia's fur. "He thinks it will help him defeat Spartacus."

Xanthia huffed. "So long as the Thracian's daemon doesn't try and eat Chavvah I'm sure they'll be just fine."

Tiberius couldn't help but snicker, turning his head to hide his grin when his father glanced at him. "You shouldn't talk that way," he whispered and Xanthia merely huffed in response, her fur standing up a bit when Chavvah glared at them, the little daemon's opinion on their outbursts more than clear.
