The Widow and Her Daemon by LJ-Todd The Widow and Her Daemon by LJ-Todd
For my Avengers daemon!AU fic.

Blurb about Natasha and her Black Widow Spider daemon, Djinn:

“You’re an idiot.”

Natasha glanced at her shoulder, at the tiny, delicate figure dangling from an even more delicate piece of silk. “How so this time?”

Djinn moved slowly, his long legs ever graceful, and he gazed up at her. “For telling him that you understood what it felt like.”

“I do…”

“But you don’t.” Djinn moved a leg back and forth, his way of shaking his head. “You were brainwashed as a child, yes, but by fellow humans. Men who sought to make you a weapon. Clint was taken by a God, a being who chose him because he was already a weapon and could be used against those that needed to be eliminated. There is no comparison.”

Natasha did not reply. Not because she had nothing to say in reply but because she knew Djinn was right. He often was.

This is really cool (all of them are*G*) but I would like to point out that only the female black widow spider is large and has the distinctive red hourglass. The males are quite small (kind of brownish in color) and have no red hourglass.

But Natasha strikes me as the type that might have a female Daemon, so maybe you could consider changing the gender?

Thanks. I know that the males are small and brown *did do research even if said research was chucked in the bin* and decided that Djinn was going to be unique in the sense that he was male but had the coloration of a female black widow spider (I'm actually planning on explaining that in the fanfic that goes along with these, the first four chapters are already posted in my gallery)

I did debate making her daemon female but decided to go with the male because she needs that balance. She needs him, Djinn, to make her whole. He is her one constant. And I rather like the imagery of people thinking her daemon is female (because of his color) only to be shocked to discover he's male. (Kind of like how she can seem so innocent and sweet when she's actually an assassin XD)

*nods* I just thought I'd say something. (I'm incapable of keeping my mouth shut about ANYTHING*G*)
Your reasoning is sound, and that's really all that matters... And according to the established canon and fanon, Daemons are capable of unique color variations, and some are even able to take purely fictional or mythological forms. Lyra's Pan took a dragon shape once in the books.
So Djinn's shape is totally possible.

I didn't see it at first, but it only took me 5 seconds before noticing the spider. Loved the blurb. Seriously, it's making me excited to read the fic!! Oh please do upload soon!

Yeah, I know Djinn is like super tiny but it was important to me to keep the animals as close to their real sizes as possible. Chapter one is almost finished and should be up in a few minutes.

Yeah, that's true. I still like it :) And if they weren't near their real sizes then it wouldn't look convincing. You did a great job with them!

In His Dark Materials the daemon was always the size of it's wild counterpart so I'm sticking to that theory :)

And thanks, I'm glad you like it (oh BTW, chapter one is up now).

I know and that's the problem with using a Black Widow Spider, they're not a very big animal and I tried to keep things to scale so it was more realistic.
