The Criminal and His Daemon by LJ-Todd The Criminal and His Daemon by LJ-Todd
Blurb about Jim Moriarty and his European magpie daemon, Baibin:

"I don't like her," Baibin whispered in Jim's ear as she shot Molly a cool glare.

"Baibin."

"Well I don't." Baibin's feathers fluffed and she hunkered down a bit more on his shoulder, watching without speaking as he interacted with Molly and her Russian Blue cat daemon, whose name Baibin honestly couldn't remember. She knew Jim had noticed her behaviour and wasn't happy with it. She rubbed her head against his cheek apologetically but he couldn't very well expect her to like Molly. She was good at playing many roles but this would not be one of them.

When they finally left the lab, Jim slipped stealthily into an empty storage room and she hopped onto an old coat rack. "Care to explain yourself, Binny?" Jim gave her a stern look.

Baibin fluffed her feathers and puffed up a bit. "I don't like her."

"So you said. Be so kind as too elaborate."

"Can't figure it out, genius?" Baibin gave Jim a cold, dark glare. "You know my feelings, James. They're yours too, after all."

Jim sighed and reached out and gently stroked his daemon's feathers. "We'll be finished with this all very soon," he said as Baibin flew back to his shoulder, reaching down to nip faintly at the chain he wore around his neck. "Don't fret so much, my love."

"I'll fret all I like until we're home and I'm allowed to snuggle with the right feline!" Baibin lifted her head high and Jim couldn't help but smile at her prideful display.

Baibin is an Irish name meaning "foreign, strange"

Interesting choice. I see Moriarty's daemon as a species of spider but the sharp way he dresses and chatters certainly fits wiith the magpie.

I thought about a spider but then I remembered Sherlock's comment about Moriarty being a spider in a web and decided to go a different route. I was going to use a raven or a crow but then found a picture of the magpie and thought it was a nice fit :)
