The Orc's words kept repeating, over and over again, through her mind as she raced through the forest. "Not thirteen, not anymore. The young one, the black haired archer, we stuck him with a Morgul shaft. Poison's in his blood. He'll be choking on it soon." Leaping over a fallen tree she heard Nicu's wings as he flew above her, knew he was feeling as she was. She had to help Kili and, if she was too late to save him, then she would make sure every Orc hunting him met death by her blades and arrows.

A Morgul shaft, by Iru, Kili had to be suffering. He had to be feeling weaker and weaker with each passing moment.

"We'll make it, Tauriel," Nicu said as he swooped down, flying next to her head, his golden wings shining in the sunlight. "We'll save him."

"You don't know that."

"I don't but I have hope, Tauriel."

She nodded as they reached end of the river, the border of the Woodland Realm. There was a chance, however slim, that Nicu was right. They could save Kili. If they hurried they might just reach him in time.
