He'd loved her, had been willing to stop risking his life to put criminals behind bars, all for her. They had been on the path to a wonderful life. Had even been able to touch one another's daemons without feeling pain. They had been a perfect fit.

And then she had been taken from him.

And then, with a little push from the Joker, he took that first step down a very dark path. Taigi, no longer able to change her colours, kept whispering that they shouldn't, that Rachel wouldn't want this. At least until after the first crooked cop confessed to his part in their abductions. After that she urged him on. The thought of what Rachel and Vendel had suffered turning her angry and bitter.

Fate would decide the fates of those who had had a hand in the death of the woman who had meant more to him than anything in the world. The flip of a coin. Life or death. Nothing else would be sufficient enough.
