When the War of the Ring finally ended, when Aragorn took his proper place as King, Gimli was proud to stand at the coronation next to Legolas, next to his friend. His kin did not understand at first, frowning and mumbling in Khuzdul the entire time, at least until they watched as Aiko dropped from Legolas' shoulder to crawl onto Etana's back. Then they went wide eyed and began talking quickly, loudly, in Khuzdul.
Etana, ever proud, lifted her head and licked at Aiko's face even as Gimli gave Legolas a happy thump on the back, grinning broadly.
"How long until your father blows up," Etana whispered to him, making Aiko giggle even as Legolas fought down his own grin.
Gimli snorted and looked to where his father, Gloin, stood with the Lords of Erebor. "He'll understand," he said with a shrug. "And if he doesn't well, I'll just thump him upside the head 'til he does."
That had Legolas laughing, that soft bell like sound, and Gimli's grin widened even as Etana licked at Aiko's face again, both daemons giggling happily.
