Oshun had settled during a sparing match against Sif, her own daemon still flittering through forms, and, thanks to a stroke of luck, her form was twice the size of the cat Ainle had chosen to be.
Everyone had cheered and congratulated them after they learned what had happened. Fandral had beamed proudly, Oshun perched regally on his shoulder, regarding the world through new and permanent eyes. And both had been surprised when, much later, Loki approached them, quietly offering his own congratulations.
There was none of his usual coldness or silver-tongued smoothness. Just the soft voice of the boy Fandral and Oshun remembered from childhood. He had clasped Loki by the shoulder, leaning into the man, the Prince, he considered a dear friend. "Aurelia will settle soon," he said as he glanced at Loki's daemon, currently in the form of a serpent, coiled about Loki's neck. "And then we shall show all of Asgard that, second son or not, you are worth just as much as Thor."
Loki had smiled, genuine and bright, and they'd headed for the feast together.
