Eowyn and Her Daemon

After Eomer's Nomsa settled everyone expected Eowyn's Volundr to settle as something just as beautiful and graceful. They were surprised when, one morning, she arrived at the breakfast table with a scraggly, rough looking coyote at her side. Her Uncle had smiled and patted her shoulder while Eomer had chuckled and Nomsa nuzzled at Volundr's neck.

People whispered and glanced at Volundr enough that, as the years passed, Eowyn scarcely noticed. They were who they were and no amount of gossip would ever change them.

And then the War of the Ring spilled into Rohan and took her to Gondor where, as she lay in the House of Healing, she met someone who didn't find Volundr's form at odds with a highborn lady. Faramir, son of Denethor, had taken one look at Volundr and smiled

"She's beautiful," he said as his own daemon, a beautiful mountain lion, pressed closer to Volundr. "As are you."

Eowyn had blushed furiously and, as Volundr licked at the mountain lion's ears, found that perhaps her Uncle had been right that she would know when she found the man who was right for her.
