Chris knew people, when they learned he was a werewolf hunter, expected him to have some big, badass daemon. Something that could help him hunt. When they saw Dao for the first time they all had basically the same reaction. A fish out of water. Dao would laugh at them.

In his youth Chris had been bothered by it. Felt embarrassed even. A werewolf hunter with a hamster daemon. The universe was laughing at him.

And then Allison had been born and he suddenly understood. He might have been hard and tough as nails on the outside but it was a façade. Holding his baby girl he knew that Dao's form reflected his inner most self. The sensitive, caring man he was deep down. Not the hunter. Not the son who had never really been good enough. But the man who would do anything, do everything, for his daughter.

Watching Allison grow, seeing her fall in love with Scott, filled him with mixed emotions and, often, Dao had to nip his ear. "They're teenagers," Dao would say as she sat up on her little hind legs. "Let them have their puppy love."

He grunted but listened to his daemon. She had never steered him wrong before.
