It didn't take much to rile Brina. She, like her human, took certain things very seriously. One of those things, or rather two, was Steve Rogers and Vieno. Before the war, before the serum that turned Steve and Vieno into super-soldiers, Brina had often thrown herself between Vieno and some bully's daemon without any real thought. Even after the serum she'd thrown herself between Vieno and a threat. It was a habit. Just like Bucky trying to protect Steve like he always had.

One evening, while Steve was going over the next mission with the rest of the Howling Commandos, Brina curled up around Bucky's legs, watching their oldest and dearest friends. "What'll happen after the war," she whispered, looking up at him, seeing the way he was frowning. "The army just won't let them go."

"If they don't, we'll fight 'em," Bucky replied, reaching down to run a hand over her head. "We won't them lock Steve and Vieno up in some lab. He deserves better than that. He'll have better than that."

Brina nodded. Steve might be bigger, stronger and better because of the serum, but they would let anyone use him because of that. They'd protect him. Just like they'd done for years. Because that was who they were.
